An overinflated tire becomes stiff and inflexible, reducing the size of the contact patch, i.e., the contact area with the road. If a vehicle's tires are overinflated, they are more susceptible to damage and can be damaged by potholes or dirt on the road. Other consequences include uneven tread wear. Overinflated tires can no longer effectively absorb road imperfections, reducing ride comfort, resulting in a harsher ride and increased noise transmission into the cabin.
