Pressure adjustment in difficult terrain.

Off-road driving is unavoidable, especially on long-distance trips, and you can learn a lot from the pros to better cope with off-road situations. Tire pressure monitoring, along with adjusting your driving style, is an important factor. Therefore, monitor your vehicle's tire pressure electronically with easily retrofittable TireMoni tire pressure sensors. For less than €300, you get a safety factor that will take you further.

Off-road, tire pressure becomes a crucial factor for smooth travel. Unlike on paved roads, where tire pressure should be slightly higher than recommended by the vehicle manufacturer, reduced tire pressure off-road has more of an impact than one might think. Inexperienced off-roaders often don't believe that regulating tire pressure can achieve so much and are afraid to let air out of their tires. Experienced off-roaders, however, say that in extreme situations, such as driving slowly through deep sand, the air pressure can be reduced to as little as 0.6 bar.

Two experienced off-roaders write on their website: http://www.pistenkuh.de/1/offroad/offroad-fahrtraining.html
"As a guideline, I would say you can reduce the tire pressure off-road (sand, snow, mud, grass, gravel, etc., excluding extremely sharp-edged stones such as volcanic rock) by 15 to 20 psi. On sharp-edged rocks or stones, I would leave the air pressure at "normal."
In soft sand, where speeds don't exceed 50 km/h, you can safely halve the air pressure. If the road gets even more difficult, reduce the air pressure by 75 bar and drive no faster than 30 km/h. In extreme cases, go down to 0.6 bar. Then drive extremely carefully and increase the air pressure as soon as you're only in difficult, but no longer extremely difficult, sand. In short: tarmac 100 bar, dirt roads, corrugated iron – 15 bar, rocks – 15 bar, mud – 25 bar, sand – 50 bar.

Experienced off-road drivers understand the importance of correct tire pressure and know exactly which pressure is best suited for each road surface. But how can you check the selected tire pressure while driving? An electronic TireMoni-Checkair retrofit tire pressure monitoring system makes this easy. The sensors are simply screwed onto the metal valves instead of the valve caps. They report the current tire pressure and temperature and warn of sudden pressure changes. This way, nothing can go wrong, and you'll always be safe, whether on the road, off-road, on gravel tracks, or on sand...

Off-road, adjustment options are crucial. Sometimes the front and rear axles need to have different pressures. This is no problem for TireMoni's intelligent tire pressure monitoring systems. TM-240 and TM-260: Simply set the warning thresholds for each axle individually, and that's it. And if you're towing a trailer, TireMoni systems can be expanded to include up to 10 sensors. http://shop.tiremoni.com/tiremoni/anwendung/offroad/
