The impact of low tire pressure on tire wear is no less drastic: the lifespan of a passenger car tire is halved when the pressure drops from 2.2 bar to 1.0 bar. Based on a 2006 survey, Bridgestone's European Technical Centre estimates that the nearly 40 vehicles at risk lose 19.3 times their tire lifespan. This equates to an average of 9,700 km, or 9 months, that could otherwise be driven on the tire (based on an average lifespan of 50,000 km and 13,600 km driven annually). Another 54 vehicles lose 5.2 times their lifespan – an average of 2,500 km, or 2 months, that they could still use. Adding these two groups together, it turns out that in Europe 24.5% of tire mileage is wasted due to insufficient tire pressure.“
