What should I keep in mind when installing TireMoni?

Initial installation should be performed by a qualified professional to ensure road safety at all times. The sensors should be mounted on suitable metal valves so that the sensor does not protrude beyond the rim contour (German Road Traffic Regulations). If necessary (especially for cars and motorcycles), the tires should be balanced with the sensors installed.

How does TireMoni detect the wheel position?

The sensors are marked with the wheel position (FL=front left, FR=front right, RR=rear right, RL=rear left) and only need to be screwed onto the correct wheel (valve).

Do the TireMoni sensors need to be calibrated?

Each TireMoni is factory-programmed to identify its associated sensors. Calibration or assigning the sensors to the display unit is not necessary.

How much does it cost to replace four valves with short metal valves?

It's best to ask your tire dealer (expect about €25-60). With a regular tire change (not a tire change), valve replacement is usually included in the installation price. Metal valves cost slightly more than rubber valves for the initial installation, but they stay in place for subsequent tire changes – over the life of the wheel, they're even slightly cheaper than rubber valves. We recommend installing TireMoni sensors on short metal valves (e.g., type ASC31 from Alligator).

Can my TireMoni also display sensors from other TireMonis?

TireMoni only recognizes its associated sensors. It's not possible to display or pair sensors from other TireMonis. If a sensor gets lost, a neighbor's sensor can't simply replace it. (See also question: What happens if I lose a sensor?)

If I mount the sensors with anti-theft protection on the valve, I can only open it with the appropriate key when refueling to add air – correct?

That's correct: the tool (wrench or Allen key) is needed to release the anti-theft device when refilling.
However, thanks to TireMoni, you know exactly when you need to refill your tires, saving you many 'unnecessary' checks on suspicion...

How do I learn a replacement sensor?

The exact description for programming a replacement sensor can be found in the TireMoni manual on page 24 (TM-100) or on page 26 (TM-260).

Here is a brief summary:
TM-100 + TM-210: When turning on the receiver, hold down the mute button (speaker) until "LEN" appears on all wheel positions. Only then insert the battery into the spare sensor. The spare sensor will register with the receiver. Turn the receiver off and on again. Done.
TM-240/260: Press the left button until the menu appears. Select "Set Sensor ID." Insert the battery into the replacement sensor. The replacement sensor will register with the receiver. Press "ESC" to exit the menu. Done.

What is the diameter and height of the sensors?

The sensors have a diameter of approximately 20 mm and a height of 20 mm. The installation height on the valve is 15 mm, meaning the valve with the sensor screwed on is approximately 15 mm longer than without the sensor screwed on.

How do I find the right replacement sensor for my TireMoni?

There are matching replacement sensors for every TireMoni. Each replacement sensor is pre-programmed for a specific wheel position, and you must know which wheel position you need the replacement for when ordering. What exactly is the deal with the short valves and the protrusion from the rim contour?

According to German road traffic regulations, the valve and valve cap must not protrude from the rim contour. At 20 mm, the sensors are longer than regular valve caps and, in many cases, would protrude from the rim contour when screwed on.
In these cases, you'll need to have your tire dealer install short valves (e.g., ASC 31 metal valves, which are only 31 mm long), then there won't be any problems with the sensors. However, on some hubcaps, the holes through which the valve protrudes are too small for the TireMoni—some older Mercedes-Benz models are one example.
