For the tires on motorhomes, caravans and trailers, the travel period is the critical phase; they should be checked particularly carefully before longer journeys.

Since they are often only used for a few weeks a year, the tires age faster than those of passenger cars and are therefore prone to cracking and pressure loss.

Parked at southern campsites, tires are particularly exposed to the sun's rays. The UV rays leach plasticizers from the rubber, causing the tires to become porous and cracked – damage that isn't immediately visible. Covering them helps, but the risk of pre-existing damage, which can then lead to a blowout or air loss, remains.

The Tire Safety Initiative therefore recommends having your tires checked by a professional before embarking on a longer holiday trip.

We also recommend the use of the TireMoni Tire pressure monitoring system. This allows air loss to be detected early, preventing tire blowouts and accidents. Another advantage is reduced tire wear, which ultimately helps save on fuel and tire costs.
