„"Rolling resistance accounts for approximately 20-25 percent of all resistance. This means that every fourth or fifth tank of fuel is used just to overcome rolling resistance. Particularly noteworthy: Up to about 100 km/h, rolling resistance is greater than the vehicle's air resistance!"

The type and condition of tires therefore have a significant impact on fuel consumption – and thus on fuel costs. Of course, rolling resistance cannot be completely eliminated – but a reduction of up to 30 percent can be achieved with low rolling resistance tires, which corresponds to a fuel consumption reduction of up to five percent. A good reason to consider buying low rolling resistance tires.

How does rolling resistance arise? Anyone who has ever tried to push a stroller across a sandy beach has experienced an extreme example of the effects of increased rolling resistance and how much energy is required to overcome it.

In a car, rolling resistance manifests itself as follows: With each wheel rotation, the tire of a vehicle deforms under the influence of the vehicle's weight. The tire adheres to the road surface over a large area, which leads to energy losses.“

Rolling resistance is optimized by correct tire pressure. Insufficient tire pressure, even with low rolling resistance tires, leads to increased rolling resistance, higher fuel consumption, and tire wear.
