An underinflated tire cannot maintain its shape and becomes flatter than is ideal for optimal road contact. Even a tire pressure as low as 0.3 bar can weaken the tire, potentially leading to a blowout due to the permanent weakening of its internal structure and overheating. Insufficient air pressure also makes rolling more difficult, increasing internal heat and rolling resistance. This can result in increased fuel consumption of up to 51 per 100 kilometers and a reduction in tire tread life of up to 25 per 100 kilometers. Furthermore, it increases the likelihood of uneven tread wear. A significant loss of steering precision and cornering stability can also occur.
It is said that car drivers should rather drive with 0.3 bar more than with 0.3 bar too little.
